Using the firefox plug in is by far the easiest. You can quickly learn what the site owner deems to be important. On this site the link to the home page is nofollow, but the link to the search engine is dofollow.

Kyle, the trick is to identify whether links to commenters are dofollow or not. That means you'd need a regex for every blog platform and template variation. Google can just look at all the hyperlinks and see if they have nofollow. We have to handle links that appear different places and link to different sites all the time.

Why are you doing this check manually? Google, and every other search engine do it automatically, and so should you! I'm sure some well written regex would help.

This is good information, thank you. If you use Firefox then try to download seo pluggins from the internet. It is free. Then enable it in your Firefox browser. If any link shows as red, that means it is nofollow. I hope this will help. Thanks!
